An aliquot is a fraction taken from a larger sample. Reconstituted peptide is commonly divided into single-use aliquots and frozen, so that using some of the stock does not require thawing all of it.
The reason is freeze–thaw: each cycle is an opportunity for degradation and aggregation, and repeated cycles are a common explanation for a solution behaving differently weeks into its use than it did at the start.
